Hello, Moon Filter!
|
Mystery...
Cosmic Beginnings:
"Once Upon A Time..." your Soul chose to come here to Earth for a human incarnation, beginning a journey of expanding consciousness in the physical form.
Which sounded great when you were a Soul, wise with understanding all of the contracts, nuances, intricacies of how it would all play out once you arrived on Earth. Problem is, we forget it all each time we are born, or at the latest, when we are around 4 or 5 and our ego forms. And then we're left to muddle our way through the human adventure!
Opening up this lens of the Soul Filter now allows us to step back in time and space to where it all began - when we were a Soul, knowing we would need a veil or shroud over our brilliant consciousness to fit into the limited physical body of a human incarnation and choosing a specific combination of Soul Filters that could guide us on our path. One primary and one secondary, with a unique blend that merges with our Soul's lessons learned from other lifetimes before this one. With this framework of how to understand the experiences happening in and around us, we were ready to enter into the lessons for THIS lifetime!
Unlocking this memory of where it all started allows us to start remembering our gifts and loving our shadows, looking at our journeys from a different perspective - which provides such freedom to play again! Life is meant to be joy-filled and abundant, yet our stories keep us stuck in beliefs and patterns that aren't Truth and don't feel that great. So, open up your heart a little wider as you explore this space and see what resonates and what is ready to be released or healed.
First - a little (very basic, Viv-version of) science to explain why our Souls would choose a certain filter...
Billions of years ago (based on our world's best scientists' best guesses and my own Google research!), the entire Universe was a hot, dense sphere, equivalent to our understanding of the heat of the core of a Star. This Universal energy kept expanding and cooling down over time and eventually the Hydrogen and Helium cooled down enough that the matter could start collecting together with its mutual gravity. This is how the first Stars were born - 73% Hydrogen, 25% Helium, and a small dusting of other matter.
The first generation of Stars were high UV and burned brightly, living for 3 million years before exploding and creating second and third generation Stars which we still see today. As the Stars increased in number and density, constellations (ie. Orion) formed from the distinctive patterns created in space and viewed from Earth.
Over time (10 million years or so!), Planets formed from gas, dust, and heavy materials moving slower and colliding with Stars and then sticking together, thickening up, and becoming solid. There were still clouds of gas and dust circling around the planets, which eventually also collided and gathered together into smaller masses that formed relationships with their Planets, called Moons for their mirroring of the light reflecting off the Sun. And last, but not least, we had Rings of swirling gas and dust that formed around the outermost Planets in the Universe, providing a gap between the Planet and its Moon that can catch debris and prevent collisions.
And so the Universe as we know it today was formed. And our Souls were given templates for how we could filter our brilliance and merge spirit and matter!
(Liberties were taken in the scientific re-telling of how this all unfolded. For specifics, please conduct your own Google research! xoxo)

Let's Talk Moons.... so why would a Soul pick a Moon Filter?
Well, the Soul would have been watching all of these cosmic energies and objects and would know that a Moon is formed by the circling clouds of dust gathering around their planet. Who better to use their powerful magnetic ability to create form from the formless and balance light and dark than the Soul with the Moon Filter?! And so you raised your hand and volunteered to be one of those Souls who incarnate into very dense human bodies, playing with the physical form in a million new ways. But being here feels so different than what we planned it to look like as a Soul! All of our brilliant ideas about new forms and balance and the ebb and flow of life seem to be rejected by those whom we love and trust as young children. In our efforts to please those people and stay in close community with them, we start to give in, compromise, and become dependent on their definitions of us as OUR definition of ourselves. For much of our lifetime as a Moon Filter, our compromising seems to make us the victim to everything and everyone. We feel invisible, but then we're mad that we're not being seen and this loop begins where we just give up (and/or get resentful) and start hiding more and more ... and eventually we can't remember who we even were at the beginning of this human journey. Good news, though! Your brilliant Soul is still in there! You always have been.... and you've arrived here now to activate your deep exploration back IN to your own Heart and Voice. I am celebrating this internal adventure you are taking because I know that our world needs ALL of you, in your beautiful shadow and gifts, teaching us about Light and Dark, Masculine and Feminine, Joy and Pain, Individuality and Community - finding the Balance in all of it. There's no rush, no expectation that you have to do anything for anyone else. Just an invitation to feel what comes up and give yourself space to be with all of it and love yourself through it. It's time for YOU. You have such wisdom and clarity to share with all of us here on Earth. My hope is that the resources in this space help you trust yourself as your own Highest Authority. And that you are willing to begin sharing your beautiful gifts with all of us as you identify and claim them! xoxo |
Meditation...
|
I believe that meditation is the key to unlock your Truth and your Inner Knowing... and that you can do it with a little fun!
This guided meditation below was created specifically for the pace and rhythm that best suits a Moon Filter. Gently untangling your energy from all of the people you love in your life so that you can feel your OWN power center that flows and aligns with Source energy. And then tuning in to hear the quiet whispers of your Truth and Love. My suggestion is to listen to my voice guiding you in as often as feels good, and then start to practice the steps on your own, creating your own unique meditation style. Your Heart and Soul will always guide you into beautiful Balance, if you are listening closely. |

Other Guided Meditations...
The meditation that I recommend for any new client or friend beginning their adventures with this powerful mindfulness practice is one that I made at the beginning of 2016. It is titled Purifying Breath and it was a transmission of love and healing that flowed from my heart to all who will listen to it through the years. My suggestion is to listen to it as many days in a row as needed to clear out the initial energy gunk that you're holding in your body. You will know you are complete when you just flow energy through and there aren't any sticky or bumpy places that feel heavy as you are following my guidance. Listening to my words keeps your mind focused as the energy is guided to move through and out, so let yourself settle in and clear out old patterns and stories!
If you are looking for more daily practice with meditations, you can dive into the 30 Days of Meditation (free) collection that offers a go-at-your-own-pace series of short meditations for one month. We play with different energy tools, different topics, and follow a typical month of ups and downs - but this time empowering you to be aware and shift the stuck places as you identify them. Super fun!!
Live Meditations...
And if you want a more immediate way to play with meditation and energy, you can join in any Sunday morning for our weekly LIVE Here Now with Viv virtual meditation call. We tap into the energies shifting on our planet at the time and practice grounding and releasing energy, exploring whatever the theme happens to be for that week. You can exchange for this week's meditation here, or go back and exchange for any of the past week's Replay calls here or in the Store. Enjoy!

5 Self-Awakening and Empowering Mudras and Mantras (video link)
|
Mudras, "derived from Sanskrit meaning 'sealing in the energy', are elaborate hand and finger gestures which have symbolic meaning as visual language.
Also known as Yoga of the hands and fingers, their energetic powers can be directed to heal and influence the energies within our bodies." The Yogi Times continues by sharing that "as a healing modality, the fingers are understood as electrical circuits, re-directing the free flow of energy (prana) that is present in these discharge points. When focused back into the body with intention, specific results can be obtained to achieve balance within. The number of different mudras are count-less, many are esoteric and others newly created. Mudras have been in use for millenniums, evidence of their practice being found on every continent, by all religious people and even among those professing no religion. They are natural to the body, and many unconsciously apply this practice simply by touching their hands and fingertips in an instinctual way." This feels important to look into as we set up mindfulness practices to support our Soul Filters! Science of Mudra offers this perspective of how mudras can regulate our body. "The Universe is composed of five elements, earth, air, water, fire, and ether. Similarly our body is also a union of five elements which is represented by our five fingers. Hand mudras regulate these five elements in our body. The fingers representing five elements are:
Their website offers a wealth of information about how specific mudras connect to specific illnesses or blocks in the physical body. If you are having pain, begin incorporating the mudras into your self-care practices and see what shifts! As reference, the Chopra Center has a list of their Top Ten recommended mudras with images, benefits, and method for quick reference. And Learn Religions offers images and descriptions of 37 different hand mudras that can move energy as you meditate. I encourage you to check out all the options and play with how they feel in your body - then pick a few favorites and incorporate them into your daily quiet time. |
Pushan Mudra...
|
Pushan Mudra - demonstrates the understanding that life energy moves with ebb and flow motion. How to form the Pushan Mudra: Right hand: Thumb, index finger, and middle finger touch at tips. Ring finger and pinky fingers are fully extended. Left hand: Thumb, middle finger, and ring finger touch at tips. Index and pinky fingers are fully extended. |
If you are going to pick one to try first, the example I offer of the Pushan Mudra feels the most relevant to your Moon Filter.
Wellbeing Mantras provides a beautiful description of the Pushan Mudra:
Yoga Love to Know offers that "Pushan is the Sanskrit name for "one who nourishes," or the sun and the earth. When you perform this mudra, it stokes internal digestive fires, which helps your body optimize the nourishment it receives from the foods you eat. To deepen your practice, they suggest that "when you meditate, focus on the color orange and your second chakra, which can strengthen the effectiveness of the mudra. You may also wish to chant the Bija mantra for the second chakra, 'vam,' pronounced 'vahm.'" Time and Duration...Yogic Way of Life suggests that you "remain in this position for 5 minutes or more, as per your need and convenience. Maintain your awareness on the energy flow in the body. Feel the changes that the mudra brings about in your system. To release the mudra, relax the fingers and open your eyes."

Music...

|
Music speaks to our Souls.
Certain songs can heal tender places in our hearts, open up memories that are ready to be released, or give us hope for future memories yet to be created. Music can guide us inward and also invite us deeper into community. As I have been playing with the magic of the Soul Filters, certain songs on my playlist feel like they match up with different Filters. They offer an opening for release or activate a remembering of when you were simply a Soul out in the Universe. I invite you to see which ones resonate with you and perhaps add them to your own playlist! The songs with chants are centuries old and beckon you towards your Destiny. The songs that are instrumentals are simply beautiful. The songs with lyrics sometimes feel as if the words were written just for me. Uh oh - you feel that way, too?! Yes, maybe the words were for ALL of us. :) Allow the Music to guide you Home... |

** When I first created these Resource Sites, YouTube felt like the most respectful way to honor the creative expression of each artist. Once introduced to their work through one song, you could then subscribe to their channel and learn more about their work, finding your own way to support their creative path. The links were all active when these lists were created and I hope they always remain active.
** Since that time, I have begun using Spotify as a way to share the music I love with my clients and friends. There are many playlists I've created with all different intentions (look for my viv-gerard account), so perhaps take some time to explore them and continue expanding with me the variety of music that guides our Souls. A couple to highlight are "My Favorite Chants" and "Tunnel to the New Earth."
Please trust the way that your own journey plays with you as you explore the music I suggest here!

Chanting...
Chanting is "the rhythmic speaking or singing of words or sounds, often primarily on one or two main pitches called reciting tones. In Buddhism, chanting is the traditional means of preparing the mind for meditation, especially as part of formal practice."
Chanting includes the use of Mantras, phrases that carry deep meaning and intention. One of my favorite musicians who follows the ancient Sikh traditions, Snatam Kaur, has this to share about her work.
“A big focus in all I’m doing now is simply coming back to ‘I am love’ and feeling that vibration of love. There’s such a feeling of divisiveness in the world now—division amongst each other, and division within ourselves in the form of either shame, guilt, fear or anger. Mantra is powerful in awakening us back to what it means to be loving to ourselves, and loving toward our neighbors who may not agree with us. It’s really from that place of love that we can find the language to work together—to be together.”
In a recent interview, singer Tina Turner (a practicing Buddhist) shares her thoughts on chanting.
"Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is a song. In the Soka Gakkai tradition we are taught how to sing it. It is a sound and a rhythm and it touches a place inside you. That place we try to reach is the subconscious mind. I believe that it is the highest place and, if you communicate with it, that is when you receive information on what to do.
Singing a song can make you cry. Singing a song can make you happy. That’s spirit—the spirit inside of you. If you look up “spiritual” in a dictionary, you will find that it is your nature, it is the person you are. When you walk into a room, a person might say, “Oh, she’s got great spirit.” Or you can walk into a room and someone will say that you don’t have spirit because it’s not visible. You’re kind of off or negative. Meditation and praying change your spirit into something positive. If it is already positive, it makes it better. I think that is the best answer I can give you right now.
I feel that chanting for thirty-five years has opened a door inside me, and that even if I never chanted again, that door would still be there. I feel at peace with myself. I feel happier than I have ever been, and it is not from material things. Material things make me happy, but I am already happy before I acquire these things. I have a nature within myself now that’s happy. " ~ Tina Turner

The Kirtan Kriya is well-known for its healing effects and is supported by the Alzheimer's Foundation as a 12-minute daily practice. I quickly found that the 30-minute version was much more satisfying! As my body settled into the rhythm of the chanting every day, I found that I could move stuck energy so quickly by yawning as I chanted - it still amazes me!
I wrote a blog post about it (here) a few years ago that has all the links for you. I encourage you to try it out at least once!

Mantras...
|
A Mantra is "a sacred utterance used during meditation.
A numinous sound, a syllable, word or phonemes, or group of words believed by practitioners to have psychological and spiritual powers. A mantra may or may not have syntactic structure or literal meaning." MindValley connects Mantras to Chakras (sound and energy) in this way: "Sound is vibration. What you may not be aware of is that each of your chakras has a specific vibration as well – and you can use mantras that are known to be in vibrational harmony with each chakra, with the purposes of opening and harmonizing the system. Using chakra mantras during meditation can have a very powerful effect. Imagine a chakra as an instrument, and the mantra as a tuning fork – strike the tuning fork, and the instrument will come into vibrational resonance with it, clearing out any energies that do not share the same resonance." You can read more about the Energy Chakras as I understand them and the Mantras associated with each Chakra in the pdf document to the left. It is printable for you to be able to have by your side as you drop into meditation with these Sacred Sounds. | ||||||
Basic Mantras...
Mindvalley continues with "The basic mantras, called bija mantras, or seed mantras, have been universally used in meditative practice to harmonize one’s energy. Don't worry about using all of them, you may be very 'energetically healthy' in some respects and not so much in others. Just pick the one(s) that resonate with your needs (you can ask yourself, 'is this sound beneficial to me?') and use it to begin your meditation.
- OM... The most well known and universal of the bija mantras it is the sound of creation and causes energy to gather and flow upward and outward. OM is the mantra of acceptance and assent. And it helps you to accept your higher self and allow energy to flow openly and freely through you. It also serves as a gathering mantra, gathering your inward energy and preparing your energy for movement.
- KRIM (pronunciation “kreem”)... Chanting this mantra stimulates your lower chakras to awaken and begin purifying your body.
- SHRIM (pronunciation “shreem”)... Its associations lie with the head and third eye. It promotes bodily and spiritual health but can also be used to bring beauty and happiness to one’s senses.
- HRIM (pronunciation “hreem”)... This holds powers of healing and creativity. Chanting this mantra awakens compassion and purifies the heart.
- HUM (pronunciation “hoom”)... This evokes the breakdown of negative feelings and spreads positivity and vitality through the body.
Mind Body Green offers five suggested Sanskrit mantras to practice, along with their interpretation. Beautiful, simple words that carry deep, transformative power.
I Am that I Am...
One of my very favorite Mantras is "I Am..." An introduction to this Mantra is best shared by our beloved Dr. Wayne Dyer in the video link below. He follows his 7 minute explanation with a 2 1/2 hour Sound Healing and the invitation to repeat the Mantra "I Am" as you listen to the Sounds. It is a powerful practice to explore! (I played this track every day as I wrote Just White Light... it is powerful beyond human understanding.)
Another favorite version of this Mantra is also in the "I Am (Krishan Liquid Mix) chant created by Nirinjan Kaur (who also chants the Kirtan Kriya with me daily!) Enjoy!

Moon Mantras...
The mantra “Har Har Waheguru” is powerful for the Moon Filter, as it restores the balance between the earth and ether elements and bring us back into Self balance.
Spirit Voyage offers this beautiful description of the Har Har Waheguru Mantra:
"In the Aquarian Age, when our minds are trapped into a dance with technology, social media, and our busy lives, getting balanced is harder than ever. Humans are on a bridge between the element of earth, personified in our grounded physical lives, and the element of ether, personified in our alternative realities on social networking sites. It can be challenging for us all to remain centered and grounded between these two polarities and to remain in a neutral state.
The mantra “Har Har Waheguru”, in addition to eliminating mother/father phobias, can restore the balance between the earth and ether elements and bring us back into balance. “Har” is a name for God which represents the Creative aspect of Infinity. “Waheguru” is an expression of the experience of ecstasy of Infinite Wisdom. Har has a very grounding vibration and Waheguru is expansive. Combining these two powerful words in this way balances the energies within us to create the experience of coming back into alignment with ourselves; we are at once here in the human world and also spiritual beings that exist beyond time and space.
Remembering this, feeling it within our hearts, and vibrating it by chanting mantra helps us not only to balance ourselves but to let all that which does not support our highest being and ultimate truth to fall away."
Below are a few other (longer) Mantra suggestions from working with my Moon clients:

Mindfulness...
|
Awareness is always the first step to change.
But it can often feel so difficult to see our patterns or to notice the ways we are blocked when they are such habits! The interesting thing to share here is that I find it is actually easier to see our Shadows than to allow in our Gifts. We can point out the positives in other people so much faster than we can in ourselves, right?! One of the resources for my work with these Shadows and Gifts is the research gathered by physicist and healer, Barbara Ann Brennan, and the psychologists and researchers she worked with throughout her career. She presents a powerful blend of science and energy / mystery in her book Hands of Light, which includes a detailed description of the five psychological character structures originally identified by Wilhelm Reich and how our childhood wounding predicts the patterns we will see play out throughout our lifetimes. I highly recommend her book and research for all who are interested in energy and healing modalities. |
The reflections I offer below come from my growing understanding of how the Moon Filter functions. I studied the Shadow traits for many years, but the Gifts have been a newer piece - and SO much more fun!

Movement...
|
|
So, now what?! What do you DO with all of this information?
How do you move forward from here? My first suggestion is to pause and rest. Reflect. Integrate. Allow the pieces to land where they want to without rushing through to the next activity. Take some time and feel into the magic of YOU... the beautiful, powerful, all-knowing Soul living inside this Moon Filter that you chose to put on to cover your brilliance. And when you're ready, perhaps contemplate your answers to a few questions:
Contemplation gently guides you into Movement. Meditation, writing in your journal, sharing your reflections with a friend or partner, walking in nature... simply create sacred time and space to allow this new perspective to settle into your heart and Soul. And then see what unfolds from here. |
A Cocoon...
Often when we have a huge shift happen in our awareness, we want to cocoon in and absorb, integrate all that just happened.
The resources in this site are intended to activate your Soul, to remind you of who you are and who you came here to be. And so now I offer you a cocoon to pause and allow it all to slowly settle back in physically and emotionally.
This recording is an hour of me holding quiet space for you.
The only thing you will hear is my hand gently tapping on my own chest / heart space, matching the heartbeat of the Universe. Allow your mind some time to wander through all that you have read here and find the pieces that you want to explore more first. And then come back as often as you need to into this quiet space, knowing that all is well.
This slow and steady pace is a safe zone for your Soul. xoxo
